ASIAN PEARS

What’s an Asian Pear?!  Does it taste like a pear?  Does it taste like an apple? These are questions that we get all the time during the season.  The Asian Pear is native to SE Asia and is also grown in India, Australia, New Zealand, and the US.  They are very firm, sweet, and VERY juicy.   Sweetness depends on the variety, with earlier varieties being more sweet and later varieties juicier.

They are delicious eaten plain, used in salads or cooked dishes, or baking.  Asian Pear pies can also be pre-ordered from our bakery.

As far as we know, we are the only place in NE Ohio growing these delicious fruits.  People come from as far as two hours away to pick them up at our store.

We have three varieties that harvest throughout September:

Chojuro – sweeter and smaller, this one harvests in early September

Nitaka – milder flavor and medium sized, harvested in mid-September

Olympic – The largest variety, milder flavor, very juicy, and harvested mid to late September

As with all our products, we would be happy to let you try a sample in the market!
